Opposite to Rolls, Royce came from a poor family. His father came from a family of millers . The business failed which made them decide to move to London. When his father died he was forced to deliver news papers and telegrams at such an early age to help the family. He only had 1 year of formal education. He was able to go for apprenticeship at the local Great Railway works with the financial assistance of his aunt. There came a time that the aunt could not support his education, however he was able to find work as a tool maker and from his earning he went on evening classes to study about electricity. Later on, Royce joined his friend A.H. Claremont and formed F.H. Royce and Co. which produced small electrical items and later on dynamos and cranes. He then was fascinated with motor cars and considered it to be a potential product that his company could make. He was able to create three cars called Royces. One he kept for himself, he gave one to Claremont and the last one was sold to Henry Edmunds.
Henry Edmunds had a showroom in London and was a common friend of Royce and Rolls. Rolls encountered a Royce vehicle in Edmunds’ showroom. Edmunds was responsible for the historical meeting of the two. The history of ever Rolls Royce for sale has began at that point. The partnership became official in 1906.
